Britain: London
London was the first stop during #FLeuro2016, my backpacking trip across Europe. We only had 1 full day in London so it was jam-packed with tourist activities.
Fatima and I were excited to see and do everything because not only was it a city that neither of us had ever been to, it was the beginning of our first ever backpacking trip!
Right off the bat, we got lost trying to find our airbnb in the rain (classic London?). Our first night concluded with an average meal of bangers & mash and fish & chips at a nearby pub.
The next morning, Fatima and I woke up early to visit Trafalgar Square. We also bought a day pass for the hop-on-hop-off red double-decker bus, which was around $50 pounds (um yeah very expensive) but we decided we just had to do it.
The bus pass also came with a free boat ride down the River Thames, so we did that when it began to rain again.
We did a full tourist cycle of landmarks on the bus pass, stopping by to take photos with Big Ben.
We also visited the Buckingham Palace, where we watched from far gates British soldiers stand around with the tall fuzzy black hats. It got quite crowded near the gates even though there wasn’t much happening.
After an exhausting day of walking and being cold (London was way colder than we expected), we finally took the tube – that’s London’s way of saying skytrain or metro or underground transit – we ended eating dinner at Jamie’s Italian Convent Garden.
We returned back to our airbnb, glad that we were able to tick off a bunch of landmarks in one day. I guess this proves you can visit London for a day, but we also didn’t get a chance to eat any bomb Indian food or watch a musical. The only advice I have for you is to bring an umbrella and jacket, even if you are visiting in the summer. The weather can go from warm to rainy quite fast.
Sincerely, Loewe
P.S. This was the closest I ever got to Platform 9 3/4 at the Kings Cross train station in London. There was a long lineup to take a photo with it and we had no time.
