Atlas Steak + Fish: birthday dinner in Langley

For my friend’s birthday, we took her to Atlas Steak + Fish in Langley. They also have locations in Burnaby, Kamloops and Edmonton.

Interior

I really liked the interior of the Langley location. We were seated in a circular booth and it felt very luxurious – lots of space for a table for 4. It had a very elegant and romantic atmosphere with dim lighting.

Drinks

Atlas old fashion ($20)

My friend ordered the Atlas old fashion and it came in a fancy presentation where it was on a wooden tree trunk plate and they lifted a glass full of hickory smoke.

This cocktail uses Johnnie Walker Black Label, house made rosemary-maple syrup, bittered sling plum and root beer bitters.

Bonsai sour ($19) and Atlas mule ($14)

My boyfriend ordered the bonsai sour, which is a spicy and unique twist on the classic sour recipe. Made with Don Julio Blanco, fresh pressed citrus, house-made lemongrass syrup and a scant dash of wasabi (very interesting!).

The Atlas mule tastes like a classic moscow mule, which is exactly what I was expecting.

Food

Free bread

How cute is this fluffy bread?? Great way to start the meal and it was nice and warm when brought to our table.

Oysters rockefeller ($19)

We order this starter to share. It comes with 4 oysters baked with fresh spinach, parmigiano-reggiano, buttered crumb and bรฉarnaise. The presentation was really pretty and the oysters were yummy. Of course since it is baked, it doesn’t have the “fresh” taste of a raw oyster, but these are cheesy and savoury.

Angus reserve prime rib ($39-47)

My boyfriend orders the prime rib (you can only order it on the weekends). It’s $39 for 8oz and $47 for 12oz. He selected the 12oz because it wasn’t that much more in terms of price.

The prime rib is slow roasted, served with potato puree, fresh horseradish, yorkshire pudding, creamed kale and spinach and a red wine jus. The prime rib was very tender and yummy! Also huge portion.

Josper grilled salmon steak ($30)

Since my boyfriend ordered a steak, I ordered something from the fish section of the menu. After all, this place is called Atlas Steak + Fish, right? Haha, I also prefer seafood over steak.

The salmon steak came in a steak-like shape which I found really cute. The sides that accompany it are a warm potato salad and chimichurri sauce. The salmon itself is cooked really well and is juicy and soft when I touch it with a fork. However, I found the salmon skin on the side of the steak to be too burnt so it tasted bitter.

Baked Alaska ($19)

The birthday girl gets to choose a complimentary dessert, but the baked Alaska is not included in the complimentary dessert so we order it anyways because it is a signature dish at Atlas.

The baked Alaska is like a marshmallow cake that is flambรฉed at the table side! This makes for quite a fun show because the whole cake is lit on fire and our server even lit the table on fire for fun. Inside the cake, it has raspberry coconut ice cream, lemon sorbet, orange vanilla cake and italian meringue. The cake is not very sweet and is actually more towards the sour side due to the lemon sorbet.

Final thoughts

Loewe’s rating: โญโญโญ

We had a nice dinner at Atlas Steak + Fish in Langley. I feel like there is something on the menu for everyone because their entrees encompass both steak and seafood. Cocktails were pretty and so was the interior so it would be a great place for a date or to celebrate an occasion.

I was very full after my dinner and the total bill ended being around $265 after tax and tip for 4 adults (a starter, 4 entrees, 1 dessert, 3 cocktails). The service was lots of fun – our server was funny and very helpful when it came to selecting items and giving recommendations.

Sincerely, Loewe
