Bacchus Restaurant & Lounge: Dine Out Vancouver 2021
Bacchus Restaurant & Lounge is a European restaurant located in the Wedgewood Hotel in downtown Vancouver. I’ve heard many good things from their Dine Out menus over the years so I was excited to give them a try this year for Dine out Vancouver. This review is based on an in-dining experience.
Dine Out Vancouver is a food festival where participating restaurants create 3-course menus for a set price. This year the festival takes place from February 5 β March 7 and instead of having set prices, it is up to the restaurant to decide how much their 3-course menu will be. In previous years, it was set to $25/$35/$45. Bacchus is one of the participating restaurants extending their Dine Out Vancouver menu until March 14.
Interior
Bacchus has a very traditional-looking aesthetic. It feels quite fancy with leather chairs and a spaced out lounge area. Lighting is quite dark so my photos didn’t turn out amazing, but the atmosphere was very romantic and intimate.
Service was great and our table had plexiglass surrounding us on both sides.
Dine Out Vancouver 2021 menu
For this review, I am only going to write about what I ordered from the appetizer, main and dessert. There were other choices but since I didn’t taste the other choices, I don’t have anything to say for those dishes.
Appetizers
For appetizers, you can choose between:
- Toasted onion brodo (V)
- Yellowtail King Fish Two Ways (G)
- Caramelized Duck Confit Terrine
Caramelized Duck Confit Terrine
I choose the duck confit terrine for my appetizer. It comes with sides of kumquat marmalade, pickled beets, cipollini onion and house made brioche.
I liked the portion size for this appetizer and I thought the presentation was simple and made sense in terms of me trying to eat my dish. I dislike fancy presentations that make it actually difficult for me to eat.
The duck confit terrine was flavourful and paired well with the marmalade and pickled beets. The overall texture was similar to a pate. I thought the amount of terrine was a good balance with the amount of brioche. This means I didn’t have to slather all my terrine into a tiny cracker.
Entrees
For entrees, you can choose between:
- Soy Braised Boneless Beef Shank
- Olive Oil Poached Steelhead Salmon
- Pumpkin and Winter Squash Risotto
Soy Braised Boneless Beef Shank
I select the beef shank as my entree. The dish comes with roasted sweet potato puree, carrot, parsnip and brussel sprouts.
I really liked this entree. The beef shank was soft and very tender. The sweet potato puree was smooth and didn’t taste grainy at all. Overall, a very well-balanced dish and the portion size is quite good.
Dessert
For desserts, you can choose between:
- Cranberry Gin Crème Brûlée
- Sticky Toffee Pudding
Sticky Toffee Pudding
Usually I would choose the creme brulee, but I saw a picture of the sticky toffee pudding and it looked so good so I decided to order this instead. The toffee pudding wasn’t too sweet or chocolatey. It also wasn’t too dense, had a bit of fluff to it.
They paired it with caramel corn, vanilla ice cream and brandy snap. Loved these pairings with the toffee pudding.
Final thoughts
I enjoyed my dinner at Bacchus Restaurant & Lounge. I liked every dish I chose and I felt full when I left the restaurant. Out of the 3 dishes, I think I liked the dessert the most with the duck appetizer a fast follow. This Dine Out menu is $49 per person, which I think is a good deal for the quality of food you get. The menu also has some good choices for Vegetarians.
I would like to return and try their regular menu another time!
Sincerely, Loewe
