Central City Fun Park: Indoor arcade in Surrey
Well I don’t know about you, but it’s been a long time since I went out and did something.
Central City Fun Park is an amusement center located in Surrey. They just opened this month and we visited on their second day of opening. Central City Fun Park boasts a bunch of different activities, including a retro rollerblading rink, mini golf, bowling and arcade games.
Prices and hours
Since they are opening during covid, there are a limited number of tickets you can purchase. They only allow a maximum of 40 people inside the facility and you are required to purchase a ticket ahead of time that has a set time for you to arrive. You are limited to a 2 hour window from your entry time and they close at 11 pm.
Tickets are $20 and it includes 50 credits for you to use on arcade games, mini golf, bowling or rollerblading. Each of these larger activities will cost you 20-25 credits per person and arcade games can cost anywhere from 1-4 credits per play. You can refill your credits inside at any time.
They also provided us with lots of hand sanitizer and a face mask, which we were required to wear the entire time we were inside.
Things to do
As mentioned before, there are 3 main activities you can do aside from arcade games: mini golf, rollerblading and bowling.
Mini golf
We decide to start off with mini golf. Their mini golf includes 10 holes and the layout kind of just wraps around the rollerblading rink. It’s definitely not a lot of room but they were able to squeeze this activity in here.
The mini golf was fun but nothing special, especially compared to the mini golf available at Castle Fun Park in Abbotsford. They did have a fun last hole where you can get 5000 tickets if you get your ball in. Tickets can be redeemed for prizes like toys, candy and even electronics.
Rollerblading
This is a fun activity to try if you have never done it before. They offer both retro skates with 4 wheels and in-line skates (wheels in a line). You are able to switch skates if you don’t like one of them.
We all tried the retro rollerblading first because not a lot of places have this available. It’s certainly much harder to roller blade in the retro version but it was fun to try it and be bad at it.
They flash some fun lights and top 40s music. The rink looks really big because not a lot of people were doing this activity so it felt kinda nice to have more space for ourselves.
I did see a girl fall badly though. They do not offer any protective equipment like helmets or knee pads.
Bowling
The bowling is kind of like mini bowling. The lanes are shorter and the balls are much smaller (no finger holes) so it’s easy for children to play. In general, the bowling was fun but I had a couple of things I didn’t like, including that they didn’t show us total scores – after the last person went, the scoreboard disappeared. The second thing I didn’t like was the seating. This might have been because of covid, but there wasn’t enough seating for everyone and it was only facing one way.
Aside from this, bowling was fun and I can see how both adults and children can enjoy it.
Arcade
There are a lot of different arcade games including the classic bowling, basketball hoop shooting, spin the wheels and motorcycle racing.
My favourite was this fake DDR machine. They didn’t have Mr. butterfly but it did have kpop songs!
Final thoughts
We went on a double date to Central City Fun Park and as 4 adults, we had fun. Our original worry is that it would be too “kiddy” (i.e. made for little kids) but we didn’t find this to be the case.
Out of all the activities, I like their bowling the most. The retro rollerblading had a unique aspect to it but after trying it once, I don’t think I would do it again simply because I got really tired (and I’m old so I’m scared of hurting myself). If you’re into arcade games, these might be your first choice as well. They have some cute prizes but it’ll take awhile to redeem anything exceptionally cool. We left with 80 tickets after playing a few arcade games and was able to redeem one piece of candy each per person.
I think their covid protocols also kept the place safe and fun.
Sincerely, Loewe
Sounds like a fun attraction! I would always go to Castle Fun Park in Abbotsford! Happy they have one in Surrey now! Also, that DDR machine is called Pump It Up! It’s not “fake”, as it is the legitimate Korean version of DDR.
