Dimensions Art Gallery: Illusion art in Vancouver
I got free tickets to check out Dimensions Art Gallery located in Gastown, downtown Vancouver. This art gallery boasts illusion art and is very Instagram friendly – it is not like your typical art gallery where you learn about an artist’s life and then view their works throughout time.
Tickets for adults are $20-24 depending on the day you go and for children it is $10-15.
Dimensions Art Gallery
So the art gallery itself is quite small but they are able to fit in quite a few art and illustrations. Most of these are sectioned off by smaller walls and dividers so you can have privacy when you are taking your photos. Masks can be taken off during photo time.
We take photos with every single art display they have. Check them out below!
Big and small room
I will call this the big and small room illusion. It is very similar to the room in Science World, if anyone has had any field trips back in the day. But essentially, depending on where you stand in the room, you can look really big or really small! Lots of fun. Note that you would need a 3rd person to help you take the photo but the staff are always there to help!
Mirror room
This one is in a separate room and it’s filled with mirrors, very similar to the ones I’ve seen at TeamLab in Japan. It can be kind of tricky to take photos in the mirror room because often times you will see the reflection of the person taking your photo lol!
Pink bathroom
This room is kind of fun and will also require a 3rd person to help you take the photo if you want the same effect. Essentially, it looks like you are looking into a bathroom mirror but there is actually no mirror so you can have someone else stand there and it looks like he/she is your reflection. Conversely, you can take the photo with no one on the other side, making it look like you have no reflection.
Upside down room
This was probably my favourite illusion to take photos in because there are so many fun things you can do! The room is upside down so you can sit, climb, do a hand stand, jump, etc. Afterwards, you rotate the photo so it looks like you are floating in the air!
Floor painting
Most of the art is on the walls but this one is on the floor so you can really make yourself look like you are falling. May require someone to hold your hand for this shot and you are not allowed to sit or stand on this floor painting.
Final thoughts
We sped through all the art displays and spent maybe around 30-45 mins inside taking photos. While we were there, there was one other group but we never had to wait to take a photo with anything.
I thought the art was cool but the most enjoyable aspects were definitely the illusion rooms like the upside down room or the big and small room. The paintings were cool too but I wish some of them were drawn more realistically. I also wonder if they change the art? Otherwise this gallery would be more of a novelty/one-time visit.
I recommend bringing kids here or friends who you know like to be silly and like taking photos. It is not a serious art gallery where you analyze art, just a fun place!
Sincerely, Loewe
