Eight4Nine: Chic lounge in Palm Springs

Eight4Nine is a restaurant and lounge located in Palm Springs, California. I came here for some drinks and bites during a bachelorette trip with 4 other ladies. I was trying to find some pretty and Instagram places for us to eat at and this was one of the ones I got recommended.

Patio dining

We had patio seating, which was really nice because the weather in Palm Springs is pretty hot so at night time it’s actually quite an agreeable temperature. The patio is decorated really pretty. The restaurant uses a lot of white and pops of colour, so most of the furniture is white. The patio area had string lights and lots of foliage so it was a very pretty atmosphere. One bad thing though is that there were tree leaves on our seats and tables/plates because of the outdoor seating, but we just brushed it away.

Food

We order a bottle of sparkling rose to share and we mostly order from the lounge menu because we were not too hungry. The lounge menu is available all day. Note that all prices are in USD, unlike my usual food reviews in Canada where prices are CAD.

Cracked potatoes ($12)

You know your girl Loewe loves potatoes so I chose to order this. It is a simple dish – cracked crispy potatoes with lemon aioli. I was pretty surprised to see how big the potatoes are! They were certainly crispy and fried well and very yummy with the dip.

Brussel sprouts ($13)

Another table favourite. I find that people always love the brussel sprouts when it arrives but not everyone orders the brussel sprouts because it’s a veggie lol. Anyways, these are charred brussel sprouts with spiced walnuts, pork lardon and a maple vinaigrette. Very yummy and flavourful, I only wish they gave us more.

Charcuterie & cheese plate ($32)

We thought this would be a good dish to share because it comes with 3 types of permium cheese, imported cured and smoked meats, house fruit jam, berries, Marcona almonds, honey comb, orchard dried fruit, and gluten free crackers. However, we were disappointed in the size of this charcuterie given that it’s $32 USD. It is definitely too little to share between 5 adults.

Personally, I didn’t care much for the berries, dried fruit and the nuts section of the charcuterie. I wish they gave us more cheese and meat, but the cheese was good and I liked the actual chunk of honey comb as well.

Beef kafta meatballs ($15)

The meatballs were made of angus tenderloin and served with tomato compote, roasted garlic naan, pecorino romano and pickled parsley. The meatballs were not bad but not the best I’ve ever had. I did like the tomato compote with the garlic naan as I feel like it made the dish more savory and easier to share.

Pork baos

I don’t remember how much these were, but around the $15 mark and it came with 3 baos. I am always skeptical when I go to a western restaurant and order an Asian dish (like potstickers) because it’s just never really authentic. That’s mostly how I felt about these baos. The bao was not fluffy and a little sad. The pork filling inside was pretty average.

Final thoughts

Loewe’s rating: โญโญ

We had an enjoyable evening at Eight4Nine. There was another bridal party seated really close to us so it’s definitely a cute spot to go with your girls. It would be really pretty for photos and things like that, and apparently Miley Cyrus ate here before? lol Our server also gave our bride a free dessert, which was really nice.

Out of all the food, I think I liked the potatoes best but I’m really biased for potato dishes so maybe that’s not an accurate review. Everyone liked the brussel sprouts and generally we had no complaints aside from the charcuterie platter, which we felt was not worth the price. Prices are a higher than average, but it is a nicer restaurant and I think in our heads we were also converting CAD to USD.

Sincerely, Loewe
