EXIT Richmond

I’m not the biggest fan of escape rooms because I am the person who gets scared watching Scooby-Doo, but every once in awhile I do get dragged into one, mostly by my boyfriend who likes these kinds of things.

We took two of my friends who have never done an escape room before to EXIT in Richmond. We paid with a Groupon for 4 people for $99 (you can find the Groupon here). Keep in mind you will need to call and reserve a time slot.

Based on our group of 4 people, we were recommended the Resident Evil room. They said it was their second most difficult room and re-assured me it wasn’t scary, only “creepy” (k thanks lol):

  • 3-10 players
  • 50 minutes
  • Difficulty level: ***

Resident Evil escape room

Before I write about the experience, I really do have to let you all know that I was TERRIFIED of this scary doll right outside the washroom before we even did anything. Scaredy-cats beware.

So after almost peeing myself before reaching a washroom, we were instructed to put all our belongings into a locker. Cell phones are not allowed in the escape rooms so sadly I can not share any photos of what the room looked like. This is also to protect their business because there is no point in escaping from a room if it can be founded via a video on Youtube or this random blog here, right?

Highlights

Without spoiling how to escape, some of my highlights for this escape room was:

  1. Light laser obstacles (like in spy movies)
  2. A transportation chute that moves you to another room (very cool)
  3. Pew pew pew

The theme of the escape room follows Resident Evil, a video game and TV series about zombies. The situation we were placed in was to stop the zombie outbreak so the settings were mostly lab-related. Luckily there are no zombie workers who actually chase or scare you because I would die.

The biggest highlight is that we actually solved it and we worked well together as a team, even though I was a scaredy cat.

Will our parents be proud?

We had time leftover after escaping from the room, so we decided to spend that time looking for a coin.

When we first entered EXIT, we saw a big roulette wheel with prizes such as “All day escape pass” or “Free escape room”. The workers told us that if we were able to find a coin hidden in the escape room, we would have a chance to spin the wheel.

We were not able to find the coin even after 10 minutes of searching. It must had been well-hidden! The workers also did not disclose to us where it is after we left.

Final thoughts

Again, I don’t enjoy escape rooms too much because I am always scared so I can’t say $25 for one hour is necessarily worth my time and money, but I can see the appeal.

My biggest recommendation is to choose who you go with wisely. I think 4 people was a perfect group size. I can’t imagine doing the Resident Evil room with 10 people (too many cooks in the kitchen).

As for the level of difficulty, I think 3 stars is a higher ranking than what we would’ve given it. Maybe we can only say that because we solved it.

Sincerely, Loewe
