Frying Pan: Fried chicken food truck in Vancouver

This summer, I visited the Shipyards Night Market in North Vancouver for the first time with my dog Tofu and Tofu’s friend Ollie πŸ₯°. The Shipyards Night Market runs from May 10 – September 13 and features a lot of artisan vendors, live music/entertainment, and even a small flea market.

Unlike the Richmond Night Market, which focuses on more food, the Shipyards district has a series of food trucks instead of food stalls, and the area also has a lot of restaurants that are dog-friendly with a patio.

Upon arrival to the Shipyards Night Market, I was actually pretty hungry. The first food truck we saw was the Frying Pan and my friend’s face lit up as she has eaten from them before and she recommends them, saying it is one of the best fried chicken burgers ever 😯! With this kind of endorsement, we immediately lined up to try.

I visited their food truck location at the Shipyards, but they have a permit in downtown Vancouver and a dine-in restaurant on Denman also.

Food review

Here are the 2 things we ordered between 4 people – keep in mind we wanted to save some room in our tummy for other food trucks/food options so we ordered less to share.

Prices are in CAD and rounded to the nearest dollar for simplicity.

Fried chicken sandwich – hot & sweet ($16 + $4 fries)
Dirty chicken fries ($19)

Fried chicken sandwich

My friend hyped up their chicken burgers so I knew I had to order one from the menu. They had 4 fried chicken sandwiches to choose from:

  1. No heat! Real cheese – $15
  2. Hot & sweet! Honey garlic ($16) * best
  3. Feel the burn! Med hot – ($14) * best
  4. Fire starter! Extra hot – $14

My husband and I are mild type of people so we opted for the hot & sweet sandwich with the honey garlic. It also had a star “best” next to it so we assumed it was popular (as well as the most expensive one on the list πŸ˜…).

These prices don’t include any sides, but we made it a combo by paying an extra $4 for fries – our order is in the top right of the photo.

The fried chicken burger was very delicious 😳! The white bun is toasted and actually had some structural integrity to it because it was packed with cabbage slaw, sweet pickles and a 6-7oz fried chicken breast. The chicken breast was fried really well and juicy and I really liekd the house honey-garlic sauce with mayo, the cheese and jalapeno.

The fries were also really good 😳! I feel like usually fries are an after thought but they were fried well and crispy – kind of like a better version of Costco fries. They also taste really great with the aioli sauce on the side.

Dirty chicken fries

Ollie’s parents order the dirty chicken fries, which is almost the same thing except it’s deconstructed πŸ˜‚ (no bun). This was also very delicious and a bit easier to share/eat than the burger.

Final thoughts

Loewe’s rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed my food from the Frying Pan and I think it was worth the hype from my friend.

From my recent memory, this is one of the best fried chicken sandwiches I’ve had in a while and never from a food truck.

I usually am not that into food trucks because I feel like they are pretty expensive but I believe Frying Pan’s quality and flavours hit the mark and I would love to try their dine-in location!

Sincerely, Loewe
