Honey Salt: Instagram-worthy brunch in Vancouver casino

I’m a big brunch lover because it has all my favourite foods: potatoes, eggs and fried chicken! You get to sleep in late and even though I feel like breakfast should cost $7, I tell myself that a $20 brunch is basically two meals in one.

My girlfriends and I decided to do a cute brunch date at Honey Salt, a farm-to-table restaurant situated inside Parq, downtown Vancouver’s newest casino.

Interior

Honey Salt is listed as one of the most Instagram-worthy brunch places in Vancouver with white walls, natural lighting and green sofas. They also have a cute green wall with their logo.

Our table for 6 was located right underneath the second bookshelf next to the cabinet. Seating was comfortable and there was room for me to put down my crutches. My knee was still broken during this experience so this review will include my thoughts on Honey Salt’s accessibility.

And if you need accessibility, I will tell you right now that Honey Salt has no washroom inside. You need to go outside to the hotel lobby.

Drinks

Caesar ($13)

Amy’s caesar.

I arrived late (I blame my crutches) and when I arrived, I was amused to see Honey Salt’s caesar cart. What is a caesar cart, you ask? Think of a portable bar just for caesars. You can choose your own toppings and they will build in front of you and then push the cart to the next table.

Chicken & waffles ($19)

My chicken & waffles.

I ordered the chicken & waffles because I can never pass that shit up.

Honey Salt’s chicken & waffles was delicious and not just delicious because fried chicken is delicious. In fact, I think the real winner in this dish was the waffle underneath everything. It was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, not soggy from additional sauces or the egg. I didn’t use much butter because I felt like the waffle had enough flavour.

The fried chicken was boneless, which is kind of a must for me because why would you even give me a knife and fork if it wasn’t boneless. The gravy sauce accompanying it was also a great bonus – not too greasy or thick.

Eggs benedict ($17)

Eggs benny.

Most of my friends ordered the eggs benny – a classic with smoked bacon, soft poached eggs and hollandaise sauce.

The most interesting dish was the potato cake. It was fried to be crunchy on the outside. The inside had some sort of potato filling with shredded carrot.

BC Smoked salmon board ($17)

Tracy’s BC smoked salmon board and mimosa.

My friend ordered the BC smoked salmon board, which came with smoked salmon sliced and potted, one bagel, capers & eggs.

Presentation was very appetizing and it was interesting to see the smoked salmon laid out in two ways – sliced and potted. If not for the quality of salmon in BC (which is amazing by the way), a part of me wonders why they charge $17 for a deconstructed salmon bagel.

Honey Salt breakfast galette ($17)

Chelsi’s galette.

To be honest I have never heard of the word “galette”, but this dish was recommended to us by our server. I found out later that a galette is a “flat cake” often see in french cuisine. Honey Salt’s galette came with scrambled eggs on top, berkshire ham, spinach, mushrooms and gruyère cheese.

It’s kind of like a breakfast pizza, except that the pizza underneath is yummy flaky pastry. Very interesting dish although its appearance can seem very simple.

Final thoughts

My girlfriends – Sara, Chelsi, Sandy, me, Tracy and Amy. Sorry for ruining the height distribution.

My girls and I had a wonderful time at Honey Salt. It was fun to explore the rest of Parq after our brunch.

Our spread.

I spent around $20 for my meal (without drinks). With drinks, a brunch at Honey Salt can lean towards the more expensive end of the spectrum. But with the lovely environment and great service, I would say it’s worth coming back again.

I am interested in trying out their all-day menu or their afternoon tea menu. Perhaps just not in crutches.

Sincerely, Loewe
