Indian Bombay Bistro: Indian takeout in Burnaby

Indian Bombay Bistro is a modern Indian eatery in Burnaby but they are also really close to New Westminster. We tried ordering some takeout from them so this review will be only based on a takeout experience.

Food

If you know us, we always over-order (hence our weight gain… we have no self control). We order for dinner but in the end we have enough leftovers for 2 dinners lol.

Mango butter chicken ($15)

So I’m a basic bitch who only orders butter chicken but this time we tried to “change it up” by ordering [mango] butter chicken. Indian Bombay Bistro’s mango butter chicken has boneless chicken marinated & prepared in the their Tandoor. It is cooked with herbs, tomatoes, cream & mango butter sauce. I assume this mango butter sauce is the only real difference between mango butter chicken and just butter chicken.

The difference is very subtle. My boyfriend found the curry to be more sour and fruity, but I didn’t notice much of a difference at all from normal butter chicken. There were no large pieces of mango meat, everything was chicken (thank god. I think having mango pieces would be weird lol).

Maybe this is why I enjoyed the mango butter chicken. Because it is basically butter chicken…

Garlic naan ($3 each)

We order 4 servings of garlic naan for 2 people. Naan is a traditional Indian bread and I prefer to eat my curries with naan instead of rice.

The garlic naan is big and fun to rip apart to dip into the curry sauce. Even though they are stacked on top of each other, it does not arrive soggy.

Pulao rice ($6)

This is my first time trying pulao rice. On the menu, they describe it to be “Plain fried rice with peas & spices”.

I don’t find it plain at all, especially compared to plain ol’ Jasmine white rice (Chinese rice). The pulao rice has a distinct flavour due to the spices used. It is a little bland if you eat it by yourself, so in no way is it a fried rice or a dish on its own. But with curry, it coats it nicely with richer flavour.

Also, the portion size is giant lol. What do we do with all this rice?

Final thoughts

Not surprisingly, we have leftovers. We have 2 pieces of garlic naan left and a lot of pualo rice. We have just a little bit of mango butter chicken left – all this for the price of $35ish with free delivery – a very reasonable price for the amount of food we got. Note that I’ve never been to an expensive Indian restaurant yet.

Overall, we really enjoyed eating this takeout from Indian Bombay Bistro. we found everything to be delicious and even our delivery guy was telling us this is his favourite Indian restaurant to order from.

We will try Indian Bombay Bistro again and hopefully, I’ll be feeling more adventurous and ordering something that doesn’t say butter chicken.

Sincerely, Loewe
