Jejudo Restaurant: Korean BBQ and seafood restaurant in Burnaby
Jejudo Restaurant is a Korean BBQ and seafood restaurant located in the K-town Burquitlam/Lougheed area. I came here a few times with friends to check out their bbq combos and seafood.
Interior
The interior is pretty spacious and they have lots of big tables for big groups. If you want to have Korean bbq, you need to specify when you put your name down on the waitlist because they have specific tables with a bbq grills and proper ventilation.
Seating is a variety of booth seating and wooden chairs – comfy enough. Tables are large.
This place fills up fast so I recommend coming in to put your name down on the waitlist before 6:30pm, otherwise you will have to wait outside for a long time. They do not take reservations.
Food
We order everything to share with 3-4 people.
Spicy raw beef tartare with yolk ($26)
I am a big fan of beef tartare so we had to order this. For $26, you get a large portion of tartare and it is served with a cute little egg yolk in a bowl for you to pour and mix in yourself, plus some veggies.
The tartare is not that spicy but I think it is best to share this with more than 2 people because of how large the portion is.
Soy sauce marinated raw crab ($23)
I’m not sure if it’s actually $23 because this was actually on special and our friend ordered it so I don’t remember the price, but I see soy sauce marinated raw crab on their regular menu for $23.
Anyways, I have always wanted to try this because I saw Hwasa (from girl group MAMAMOO) eat this at home and she made it look so delicious. The crab is raw and marinated in soy sauce, so you get all this ooey gooey crab GUT. The crab shell is also kind of soft so you can just kind of suck on it or scoop it all our and mix it with rice.
For my first bite, I just sucked on it and it was very savoury and tasted like the ocean. I preferred mixing the rest with rice because it can be a little overpowering.
Spicy cooked pork entrails ($25)
Pork entrails are basically intestines so this wouldn’t be something I order usually, but our friend ordered it and I surprisingly liked it more than I thought! The pork entrails are the little loops you see in the photo, cooked with onions, veggies, green onion and a fermented spicy sauce.
I found the pork entrails to be a nice texture – chewy and a little crispy. I can taste the fattiness and a very slight bitterness from the intestines, but the spicy sauce covers it up quite well. If you have been interested in trying it, you should! I’ve ordered this twice – once without the spicy sauce and once with, and I prefer with the spicy sauce.
Flounder sashimi – half order ($60)
We wanted to try the flounder sashimi so we opted for the half order, which comes with 15 pieces. The flounder sashimi is white and kind of clear, but some of the cuts are thicker than I expected. Overall, it was pretty decent sashimi but for $60, I’m not sure why it’s so expensive aside from the fact that it is flounder.
BBQ couple set for 2 ($80)
This BBQ couple set comes with several items at 2 servings each:
Meats: beef short rib, beef rib fingers with garlic, light marinated chunk flap tail, garlic sauce beef bottom sirloin
The server sometimes will cook the first few pieces for you, but afterward you are probably on your own to cooking the meat. Everything is delicious and they prepare dipping sauces and salt for you to eat the meat with as well.
They also come with a few vegetables like this cheese corn, mushrooms and zucchini and asparagus.
Bean paste soup
This comes with the bbq set and I can’t really say much about it because it is a pretty plain soup dish that comes with most bbq sets. It’s bean paste so not spicy, and usually features tofu and veggies. I usually only have a little and save my tummy room for more meat.
Salads
The bbq set also comes with 2 salads. I prefer the left salad more and I actually like to eat this with the pork entrails or the beef tartare – it has more spicy flavour than the other salad.
Final thoughts
Loewe’s rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
We’ve enjoyed our 2 dinners at Jejudo restaurant. Granted, we mostly ordered the same things both times but that’s because it’s the right amount of food. Out of everything we ordered, I think the bbq couple set is a pretty solid choice if you want korean bbq. I actually think this combo would be enough for 2 people if it’s the only thing you order, otherwise we like to share this set with 3-4 people and order other dishes as well.
The marinated crab was very interesting and a must try, but if you are not a fan of uni and those kinds of foods, maybe skip it because it’s not like crab meat at all (again, crab GUTS!). The beef tartare is also a fun order but again, you will need more than 2 people to finish it so if you don’t like raw stuff, skip this too.
I am not saying I am a fan of intestines now, but I would order the spicy pork entrails again. As for the flounder sashimi, now that I’ve tried it once I don’t think I will order it again because it is too expensive.
In general, I think Jejudo is quite pricy so it’s not a cheap bbq place if that’s what you’re looking for. However, they have some really unique seafood offerings and the meat quality is good so if you are willing to spend more on a meal, then I do recommend visiting Jejudo Restaurant with family or friends.
Sincerely, Loewe
