Koyuki Ramen: $20×5 GIVEAWAY (closed)!
I recently visited Koyuki Ramen to try their food and I am super excited to announce my first contest giveaway ever! To find out how to enter, check out my Instagram post or read through this post.
Koyuki Ramen is located on Jervis Street in downtown Vancouver. They specialize in Sapporo ramen from Hokkaido, a northern prefecture of Japan.
Food
We tried 3 different ramen and a variety of side dishes.
Takoyaki ($6.25)
The takoyaki reminded me of the takoyaki from Gindaco we had in Japan. They were larger than usual and had large bits of octopus inside the filling. The outer layer was crispy and crunchy but the inside was soft. Also, it was just the right temperature! No more having the inside of your throat burned.
Tuna tataki ($10.95)
Like the takoyaki, the tuna tataki had big thick cuts of tuna and lots of garlic chips (yes!!!). There was a light salad underneath with the signature ponzu sauce. A great side dish to share with more than 1 person.
Chicken karaage ($7)
We all were impressed by the chicken karaage. Not only were they huge pieces, they were fried perfectly and juicy on the inside. The mayo was a great pairing.
Butter and corn miso ramen ($13.95)
Their #1 ramen is their butter and corn miso ramen. Toppings include cha-shu, green onions, bamboo shoots, fish cake, corn, butter (!!!) and a soft boiled egg.
There is actually a square of butter that you will put into your ramen soup to make the miso soup creamier and richer. It is a great addition with the amount of corn you get.
You can choose the thickness of your noodle (thin or thick) and how to boil your noodles (hard vs. regular vs. soft).
My boyfriend chose thick noodles cooked hard and I chose thin noodles cooked regular. The difference between thick and thin noodles are not that big (we expected thicker), but I often find that thinner noodles go better with a richer soup base.
Original miso ramen ($12.25)
The original miso ramen is basically the butter and corn miso ramen without the butter, corn and seaweed. It still comes with cha-shu, green onions, bamboo shoots, fish cake and a soft boiled egg.
Portion-size wise, it is just a little smaller than the butter and corn miso ramen.
Spicy miso ramen ($12.55)
This is kind of like the original miso ramen except the miso soup base has spice in it. For those who are wary of spice, it is not that spicy. Toppings are the same.
Final thoughts
We enjoyed eating at Koyuki Ramen and found the ramen to be authentic, especially just returning from Japan. The butter and corn miso ramen is a unique offering I haven’t seen at other ramen shops in Vancouver so it’s definitely worth a try – especially if you prefer creamy and milkier broths. The soup itself seemed to contain none or less MSG, which is always a plus in my book.
Their side dishes were all fantastic. I can see their happy hour and izakaya style thriving as well.
Portion sizes are generous and I was actually too full to finish my bowl of noodles! I think the bowl misguided me to how much was actually in the bowl.
