Lazzez’s Grill Indian Cuisine: Casual Indian favourites in Coquitlam
Lazzez’s Grill is an Indian restaurant located in Coquitlam. They consider themselves a fine dining establishment, but I have always seen it as a nice local place and I do not see it as a fancy restaurant. They have a lunch time buffet special for $10, but I have never tried it.
This review is based on an dine-in experience.
Interior
The interior is quite spacious and they have a giant waterfall structure inside when you enter. The booths and tables are really large so if you have a large family, this might work out for you.
As a table for 2, we found ourselves seated at an overly sized round table. If we sat across from each other, we would need to stand up to reach the food in the middle (lol)! Therefore, we choose to sit beside each other.
They have some awesome Indian/Bollywood music videos playing on their TVs for you to enjoy. They are very amazing.
Food
We order 2 appetizers and 1 curry.
Appetizers
Beef samosas ($7)
Samosas are crispy patties. Since we choose beef, ours is filled with minced beef and authentic spices. Usually, samosas are vegetarian and have a potato and pea filling.
These samosas are big. Bigger than normal. When you bite into it, you will find even more filling and wonder how they packed it all in.
I do prefer vegetarian samosas more. I find the beef filling to be a little dry.
Fish pakora ($11)
Pakora is essentially something battered and deep fried. You can have fish pakora, cauliflower pakora, chicken pakora, etc. It’s not as thickly battered as fish & chips, but it keeps the fish inside smooth and not oily. This appetizer was a little on the spicy side.
Curries
Butter chicken ($13) + Lazzez’s Naan Bread Basket ($9)
Call me a basic bitch but I always need to order butter chicken JUST LEAVE ME ALONE IT’S YUMMY. Lazzez’s Grill’s butter chicken has marinated chicken breast prepared in a clay oven. It is then cooked with a creamy tomato sauce.
Love butter chicken and their sauce is good. Big portions too – enough for 2 people! Pro tip: order pizza and dip your crust in this lol.
I also love love love naan. Naan is a leavened, oven-baked flatbread. I use it to dip and eat with my curry instead of eating it with rice, so I order more naan than the average person.
Lazzez’s Grill’s naan basket also includes other types of breads like roti (unleavened flatbread, lighter), garlic naan and aloo naan (stuffed potato naan).
Final thoughts
I prefer ordering takeout from Lazzez’s Grill because of their large table setting. I also find that the restaurant smells heavily of spices so if you don’t want your clothes to soak in this smell, takeout might be a better option. Takeout/delivery is fast and service is fast as well.
I think their lunch buffet is a good deal, but in general I don’t like buffets so I can’t comment much on that.
Definitely a fast and reasonably priced Indian restaurant in the Coquitlam neighbourhood, across from Coquitlam Center mall and very close to the Skytrain/bus loop.
Sincerely, Loewe
