Le Petit Belge: Belgian waffles in Vancouver
I am a big fan of brunch even though deep down inside I know it is kind of overpriced for eggs and bread.
La Petit Belge is a cute brunch spot I visited with my friend awhile ago. They offer Belgian waffles and other classic brunch dishes.
The vibe
The interior of Le Petite Belge is not very large but there is seating inside and 2 small tables outside on the street also. Even though the area is small, it feels cozy and private and you get a window view of the street outside. I also like the touch of the bright red chairs.
Food and drinks review
Here is what we ordered between 2 people.
London fog latte ($6) + Chai latte ($6)
I ordered a london fog latte and my friend got the chai latte. We both liked my london fog and felt it was very creamy and well-made, but my friend wasn’t a big fan of her chai latte.
Salmon benny ($22)
We shared 2 main dishes. For our savoury choice, we got the salmon benny. The dish itself was pretty decent and I liked the simplicity of the smoked salmon, poached egg, avocado and homemade hollandaise sauce. There was a small arugula salad and 4 large oven baked smashed potatoes. Pretty easy to share but overall, a very simply plated dish.
My lady waffle ($18)
For our sweet option, of course we had to choose one of their Belgian waffles! We chose the My Lady Waffle, which comes with strawberries, whipped cream and chocolate mousse on top of a Brussel waffle.
I found the waffle to be tasty and had a slight crunch on the outside, but fluffy on the inside. It was also bigger than I expected so it was nice to share between 2 people.
Final thoughts
Loewe’s rating: ⭐⭐⭐
We had a good brunch at La Petit Belge. Out of the 2, I think the waffle was a better choice just because they specialize in waffles and they taste better than other brunch places that do not specialize in waffles. The eggs benny was just average to me compared to the regular Vancouver brunch scene.
