Master Beef Hot Pot: Alberta beef hot pot in Calgary
During my visit to Calgary this summer, the number one thing on my list to eat mostly involved Alberta beef 🐮. I thought this would be at steakhouses, burger joints, but to my surprise, one of my favourite spots to eat Alberta beef was actually at a Chinese hot pot restaurant called Master Beef Hot Pot.
We came here as a group of 4 adults with no reservation on a Saturday night and here was our experience.

The vibe

All the windows are blacked out so you can’t really see inside the restaurant, but once inside I realized it was decently large. Every table here is spacious booth seating with a circle in the middle for the hot pot.
In the back, there is a DIY sauce bar with all the ingredients you would need to make your own bomb dipping sauce.
Food review
Here is everything we ordered to share between 4 adults. Prices are in CAD and rounded to the nearest dollar for simplicity.
Alberta beef lover combo ($85)

We started off by ordering the Alberta beef lover combo for $85. This combo includes quite a lot of things like:
- 🍲 2 broths: We chose sate and original pork bone broth
- 🥬 bowl of assorted veggies
- 6 pc meatballs
- 🍜 2 types of noodles: We chose udon and potato noodle
- 🥩 All cuts of AAA beef!

The big plate they use to illustrate all the different beef cuts is quite clever and fun 🤩! You can see exactly which part of the cow you are eating and it is quite a big portion! Some of our favourite cuts were the beef cheek, rib eye, and the classic short plate. But honestly, once everything is cooked in the hot pot and dipped in my sauce, it all tastes pretty similar to me 😅.
Wagyu shoulder ($16) + Wagyu short rib ($13)

The combo was described to be for 2-3 people, so we supplemented 2 additional orders of wagyu meet: the sliced shoulder and sliced short rib.
I will admit out of all the different meats we ate that day, I did like the wagyu short rib the most 👍! It was buttery and melt in your mouth.
Final thoughts
Loewe’s rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had a fun and very meat-focused dinner at Master Beef Hot Pot.
The service was very attentive. Our server even taught us a little trick they like to use when cooking the meats with the big ladles – very friendly and helpful.
Everything was delicious and authentic. $85 for the combo was already enough for us 4 people and the main difference between this combo and the larger one was essentially more meatballs or noodles. I think it would be best to just order the $85 combo and add on additional cuts of meat if you want to heavy up on meat and lessen on noodles.
I definitely think this place is affordable and worth its value!
Sincerely, Loewe
