My stress book
Today I want to write about my stress book. One day, I was cleaning my room and my boyfriend found a sailor moon notebook. On the first page, scribbled in pencil were the capital words “STRESS BOOK”. The next page had a journal entry that went something like this:
I hate my life and I am stuck in these 4 walls. I cannot breathe. Nobody understands me.
It’s not my fault I don’t like cheese pizza!!!
Of course, my boyfriend found this hilarious. The journal was filled with a lot of pre-teen angst and the punchline “It’s not my fault I don’t like cheese pizza!” is so over-dramatic.
I too, think this is pretty funny because it’s such a silly ordeal but little Loewe did not think so. It was a big deal and it made her upset. Very upset and misunderstood.
There are a lot of things like this in our lives. Things that were a big deal and made us really angry, but it doesn’t really matter anymore. Just like how I never thought I’d eat cheese pizza, there are a lot of things I thought I would never be able to do, but now I can do it or have done it.
I have apologized to people I thought I’d never apologize to. I’ve stopped hating people I used to despise. I am able to smile at people who have hurt me.
My anger, my pain, my hatred – all of these have dissipated over time, leaving me to wonder why I harboured these feelings for so long in the first place. Why did these people matter? Why did these things or memories matter?
I’ll tell you what matters – being happy. Being able to appreciate and enjoy the people in your life who bring you joy and laughter. Feeling good about yourself and doing kind deeds. Getting over things, getting over people. Moving on and letting go. These are the things that matter.
So for those who are stuck in the same place, feeling like you will never be better or you’ll never get over someone or you’ll never amount to anything more than what you are now, you’ll be surprised at how much you don’t know about yourself.
You will be able to overcome your troubles. You will be able to get to where you want to be with perseverance and self love. Surround yourself with good folks and don’t ever give up on yourself.
What is stressing you out today could be something laughable in the future. Don’t you want to be there to laugh about it when that happens?
Sincerely, Loewe
