Ours: Western brunch in Uluwatu

Ours is a restaurant my fiance and I had brunch at during our trip to Bali. It is located in Uluwatu and has many stars and Google reviews – something that is important to us as we both had some stomach problems at the beginning of our trip. They serve a variety of western dishes like pasta, burgers, and brunch/breakfast dishes and caters to foreigners.

Interior/vibe

Ours has an indoor-outdoor type of structure going on where basically the entire restaurant is a big patio. So there isn’t really any closed windows/doors/walls and no AC. We were pretty hot from our walk to the restaurant, but after being seated, it is a bit cooler. The washroom does have AC though.

The inside is very cute and boho themed – very IG friendly. They have a full bar and more seating in the back. As a table for 2, we were seated near the front and we could watch the motorcycles and pedestrians walk by on the street. There were also some stray dogs that would hang around, which was cute.

Food and drinks review

All prices have been converted from IDR to CAD and rounded up to the nearest dollar.

The buzz ($5) + Orange juice ($4)

The buzz is a cold pressed juice with apple, pineapple, ginger, cayenne and mint. I ordered this because it has ginger and that’s good for you ๐Ÿ˜‚ I find ginger helps with my nausea. The drink had a pretty strong ginger taste so it wan’t the fruitiest, tastiest juice I’ve tried, but it was drinkable.

The orange juice tasted much better.

Shakshuka + chorizo ($7+$4)

I order the shakshuka because I’ve been wanting to try it for awhile now. Shakshuka is a mediterranean/Moroccan dish featuring poached eggs in tomato sauce. This one from Ours uses baked eggs, a tomato and bell pepper sauce, feta cheese and served with grille sourdough bread for only $7! I added the spicy chorizo sausage to make this vegetarian dish meaty.

Portion wise, it is good for 1 person. The sourdough bread was kinda hard and provided some structural integrity to this dish. The poached eggs and tomato sauce made for a classic combo and I liked the heat from the chorizo sausage.

It was a pretty hot morning, but I was happy with my shakshuka dish, which is hot due to the skillet.

Bolognese tagliatelle ($9)

Kelvin orders a pasta, which are made in-house. The bolognese meat sauce is sautรฉed in a spicy tomato and chili sauce with grated parmesanย on top.

Kelvin liked his pasta and also felt the portion was reasonable for 1 person.

Final thoughts

Loewe’s rating: โญโญโญโญ

We had a nice brunch at Ours in Uluwatu. My fiance felt pretty sick on some days during Bali and since then we have been very careful on what we eat and where we eat. The basic standard now for judging restaurants in Bali is whether we get diarrhea within 24 hours ๐Ÿ’ฉ.

For brunch, they have a pretty large selection of breakfast dishes and also lunch options like salads and burgers, so there is a lot of variety there. They do not have any traditional Balinese dishes though, so come here if you are craving something western.

I read some reviews that service is really slow, but that didn’t seem to be the case on the day we went (it wasn’t busy). My only complaint is that because of the building, it can still get quite hot/warm when you are eating here.

Sincerely, Loewe
