Par4 Kitchen & Bar: New happy hour menu in Surrey

Throwback Thursday has been making me feel real old lately on top of 20-year-olds saying Nike Air Force shoes are dad shoes and bringing digital handheld cameras to social events instead of using the cameras on their iPhones.

Par4 Kitchen & Bar in Surrey is a sports bar that now has #throwbackthursday nights every Thursday starting at 8pm with a live DJ spinning hip-hop, rap and R&B. They also have a new happy hour menu with fun appies and drinks.

We visited their first #throwbackthursday launch party and tried almost everything on the new happy hour menu.

The vibe

Par4 Kitchen has a really large space actually with one half of it being a more formal dining area and lots of TVs for game night.

For the launch party, we were actually in a semi-private space next to our very own golf simulator! This was pretty cool and I feel like you can host private events in these spaces. Our area included a sofa, fireplace/coffee table and a small bar dining area with 4 stools. This is separated from the rest of the spaces like the bar or where the DJ is set up.

I’ve never tried a golf simulator before and I actually question whether it should be in a place where people can be potentially heavily intoxicated. Aside from golf, they have a lot of other games too including a zombie game. My only gripe is that it is kind of lame to pick up the ball after you hit it!

Food and drinks menu

This is everything we got to try between 6 people – we each selected 6 different appies and 4 drinks and shared all the food.

Disclaimer: We were invited here as part of an Instagram collab, so everything featured in this post was free. I have included prices from the regular menu (not happy hour menu) for transparency. Prices are in CAD and rounded to the nearest dollar for simplicity.

California love ($15) + Ice ice baby ($14) + Thug passion ($15)

These are some of the cocktails on the happy hour menu and I am so happy to see they are all $15 or under!

Out of the 3 I tried, my favourite was the California love because it has whisky and egg white – I just like cocktails with these elements. It is easy to drink and smooth.

The other cocktail I liked the most was ice-ice baby. It has such a fun presentation with the salted rim, white and dark rum and the big cup.

Hummus & flatbread ($17)

This hummus was very herby with house greens, fried chickpeas, parsley, lime, pickled turnip, and garlic flatbread. It had a really green and colourful presentation and tasted fresh!

Sliders

I don’t see the sliders on the menu anymore, but these were a good size with a yummy sauce – tastes similar to a big mac from McDonald’s.

Fried dumplings ($18)

I found these dumplings to just be ok – the dumpling wrapper was too thick for my liking.

Fish tacos ($18)

Fish tacos were ok – too saucy for me and it overpowered the taco. The chips on the side didn’t do much for me.

Paneer masala bowl ($17)

This bowl surprised us because you don’t see a lot of sports bars with Indian specialties, but I feel Par4 definitely had some good Indian dishes on the menu, including this paneer masala bowl. The paneer is grilled and has that nice smokiness to it. It paired nicely with the steamed rice and butter gravy.

Samosa mashup ($14)

The samosa mashup is exactly what it sounds like – 3 samosas mashed up and drizzled with yogurt, tamarind chutney, mint chutney, beets, pico, and chat masala.

I love samosas and think this is such a fun and creative appetizer that you don’t often see at a sports bar.

Sweet and sour pork ($16)

This tasted yummy and was easy to eat with crispy pork in a sweet and sour sauce. My only gripe is that each piece was a little small.

Dirty fries ($14)

This is a big plate of fries seasoned with paprika, parmesan, cheese sauce, and siracha hot honey.

I am a big fries girl but I didn’t love all the seasonings on these fries.

Final thoughts

Loewe’s rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had a fun night at Par4 Kitchen & Bar in Surrey. I think this is definitely a fun sports bar and the golf/sports simulator makes it a bit more unique/special compared to other competitors. The throwback Thursday is also fun for a big group if you like live music and drinking.

Food-wise, there were some hits and some misses for me. I found the Indian-inspired dishes to taste better and land a bigger punch in terms of flavour. My favourite items being the samosa mash-up and the paneer bowl. Price-wise, everything is pretty reasonable. Drinks were all fun!
