Pizzeria Antico: Affordable pizza in Whistler Village
I go up to Whistler several times a year to snowboard and by now, we’ve been to quite a few restaurants and eateries in the Whistler Village area. Notably, there are many fancy/fine-dining restaurants with the higher price tags, but there are also some affordable options as well for those who are on a budget.
Pizzeria Antico is one of those spots. Pizzeria Antico serves up artisan pizzas, pastas, salads and other Italian dishes in a casual and hip space. They also serve craft beer and wine.
The vibe
We got to Pizzeria Antico at 7pm on a weekday with no reservation. There was a waiting area with quite a few people waiting actually, but we were seated within 20 minutes so the wait wasn’t that bad for how busy it looked.
The shape of the restaurant is actually kind of weird – it kind of curves around so you don’t see the entire restaurant at first glance unless you walk all the way to the bathroom at the far end.
It’s an open space with a bit of that rustic/chateau vibe. There is an open kitchen concept and you can see the pizzas being prepared. There is also some bar seating, but overall they can fit quite a large number of tables and they have some longer tables in the back for large groups.
Food and drinks review
I came here as a table of 4, but I will only be including what we ordered and shared between 2 people. Prices are rounded to the nearest dollar.
Bourbon sour ($14)
It’s been a while since I came here, but I think their bourbon sour cocktail is no longer on the menu. It came in a very regular cup to my dismay and looked like juice so presentation was not the best, but it was certainly strong and I will not complain about that 😛.
Arancini ($21)
My partner loves arancini, which are like deep-fried risotto balls. I originally didn’t really want to order the arancini because I found $21 to be a bit pricey for what I believe is an appetizer. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the arancinis are pretty large – larger than what I expected 😳.
One order comes with 3 and they are stuffed with some tomato meat sauce, fior di latte, green peas and served with caponata sauce. I quite liked the taste of the sauce and the outside was fried well with a cheesy inside.
Pizza of the day ($25)
They have a pretty good selection of pizzas (vegetarian options also!) but we decided to go for the pizza of the day. The toppings on this pizza includes the controversial pineapple (hey I like pineapple on my pizza 😌), roasted mushrooms, prosciutto cotto and tomato sauce.
The pizza came out on a metal pan looking pretty delicious to me. They are thin-crust pizza, which is what I prefer and I also like the crust to be a little bit burnt/crusty like that.
For $25, it was large to share between 2 people and I felt the quality was pretty good!
Rigatoni con funghi misti ($26)
We also wanted to try their pastas and this mushroom rigatoni really spoke to us because we love rigatoni out of all the pastas in the world.
This pasta uses 3 varieties of mushrooms and a taleggio cheese cream sauce. I liked that the sauce wasn’t too think or runny or too cheesy (I know that sounds ridiculous to all the cheese lovers 😅 but sometimes if something is too cheesy I actually think it smells bad). I just thought the balance of it all was very good and the pasta was cooked al dente!
Final thoughts
Loewe’s rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had a fun and filling dinner at Pizzeria Antico. For the price point, the food was worth it and quite affordable since you are looking at around $25 a person or possibly even $25 for 2 people if you’re just going to share 1 pizza.
Everything was delicious and fast and I just think it’s a nice easy choice because they offer pizzas, pastas and salads so there will likely be something for everyone. They also have a pretty good happy hour deal for a margherita pizza + beer.
I recommend you to check out Pizzeria Antico if you love Italian food and pizza and you are looking for a casual place to eat in the Whistler Village that won’t break the bank.
Sincerely, Loewe
