Pizzeria Farina: Popular Italian restaurant in Fukuoka

The pizza scene in Japan has been bumping in recent years and I’m not talking about their take on Japanese pizza like the way Koreans have their own sub-culture of pizza toppings. I’m talking authentic wood fire pizzas with classic Italian toppings and styles 🍕.
Pizzeria Farina is one of these places – known for serving up authentic Italian pizzas and pastas in the heart of downtown Fukuoka. We came here for dinner for our first night in Fukuoka during our 3-week honeymoon. Here is how our dining experience went!

The vibe

The inside of the restaurant is bigger than you may think from the entrance. Inside, it is very warm tone with wooden tables and chairs and a beautifully tiled pizza oven in their open kitchen concept.
We had no reservation but came at a little past 7pm on Monday night for dinner and got seated right away. It wasn’t that busy during our entire time here, but we felt it was a romantic and cozy space.
Food and drinks review
Prices are have been converted from yen to CAD and rounded to the nearest dollar for simplicity. They do have an English menu.
Lemoncello sour ($7) + bread ($3)

We got their drink special of the day – a lemoncello sour. It tasted very light and sour – like a canned cooler beverage.
We also got a little bread appetizer. Usually at Italian restaurants, the bread is free but here they charge you a 300 yen seating fee but you get free bread. We didn’t really mind because it was communicated on the English menu and also we liked the bread – it was crunchy, warm and had some olive oil on it.
Seafood spaghetti ($17)

We ordered the seafood spaghetti and was quite impressed by it. There was a decent amount of clams, some cuttlefish, and a large prawn they cut in half to make it easy to eat. The pasta was cooked al dente and despite its dry-looking appearance, there was a very subtle and non creamy flavour.
Portion wise, it is kinda small to share between 2 people but also really large for 1 person to eat alone.
Super margherita pizza ($20)

I love myself a good margherita pizza 😍! We were a little confused because there were two on the menu – the super margherita pizza and the Buffala margherita. The ingredients listed are identical except the Buffala uses buffala cheese. We just opted for the cheaper one.
The pizza smelled really good when it arrived at our table. We saw it being cooked in the wood fire oven and the whole restaurant smelled good, honestly. It was Neopolitan style with a thin crust and the middle was ooey gooey. I was a little disappointed with the basil (not that much + shriveled up) but aside from that it was fine.
Again, the size is a little small to share between 2 people, but since we shared the pasta already, this was enough for us. I also really liked the dipping oil they provided for us for the crust.
Tiramisu ($6)

We ended our meal but sharing a small slice of tiramisu cake. This was pretty good and moist but I usually prefer my tiramisu with a higher mascarpone ratio than cake. Wish the portion was bigger!
Final thoughts
Loewe’s rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had a romantic and cozy dinner at Pizzeria Farina in Fukuoka. We felt that despite it being in Japan, the food was authentic and paid good homage to Italian pizza and pastas.
Portions were on the smaller side, but honestly we eat so much throughout the day when we travel in Japan that this was the perfect amount for dinner. I highly recommend you to try at least one of their pizzas since they have the pizza oven and everything. All of the pastas on their menu are also very reasonably priced (under $20 CAD).
Check out Pizzeria Farina for an affordable and authentic Italian meal!
Sincerely, Loewe
