RJT Blueberry Park: Halloween Haunting Adventure Squid Game

RJT Blueberry Park is a blueberry farm located in Langley. They are a new farm that just opened last year specializing in fresh blueberries and blueberry products like jams, honeys, and more.

We were invited this year to check out their Halloween Haunting Adventure event! This year’s theme is based off of the very popular Netflix show Squid Game, so we were excited to see how they adapted their attractions after the show.

Tickets

They have several ticket types but generally, a child ticket will cost ~ $19-54 and adults will cost ~ $27-60. It depends on how many perks you want to have during your visit. All tickets include access to the general admission theme park, the haunted dungeon, the squid-go-round, alpaca petting area and a raffle draw.

We were invited to check out the farm for free but our ticket includes all the attractions plus a free pumpkin carving or honeycomb carving. If your ticket doesn’t include this, you can pay $10 for a honeycomb carving. We went on a day that was supposed to be rainy as well so there was no need to “skip the queue” since there was no queue. Also, parking is free.

Things to do at RJT Blueberry Park Halloween

We were given a list of different activities/attractions and we completed all of them. You can collect stamps on a card for more chances to win at the raffle draw in the end.

Alpaca

This isn’t really scary/Halloween themed, but RJT has alpacas on the farm and you can meet 2 of their alpacas – Snowball and Jack/Jax. It is in an undercover area with a trainer outside the fence. You can hold their leash and touch or pet them and take photos and videos with them. They are not aggressive and SUPER SOFT omg. You can spend as much time with them as you want if there’s nobody lining up to see them, but generally you’ll get at least 5-10 mins with them.

Squid-go-round

This is their adaptation for the first game in Squid Game, which is red light/green light. The building is like a big circle and it kind of looks like where you would go for a pony ride. The objective of the game is to make it through the entire circle clock-wise and avoid the fences that are moving towards you (you duck under them). You can only move when the girl is singing/counting and when the music stops, you need to freeze. Meanwhile, there is a guy in a clown costume kind of chasing you or getting close to you and trying to make you move when you are supposed to be frozen.

We finished this game in 10-15 mins and it’s slightly more challenging if you are a tall person since you have to duck under the moving fences. Our boyfriends left us in the dust to die though.

Haunted dungeon

So I wasn’t allowed to take any photos or videos inside the haunted dungeon, which is essentially a haunted house. I am a scaredy cat so I honestly kept my eyes closed for most of it, but we follow a staff (dressed as a Squid Game staff) inside the haunted dungeon. Inside it’s very dark with multiple rooms/displays you will pass by with spooky decorations and moving robots. There are actors inside who will follow you and touch you so it’s pretty scary!

U-pick candy

This attraction was pretty low-key. A clown will hold out a bag of candy and you put your hand in to take something out (note that it’s not only candy in the bag!).

Pumpkin carving or Honeycomb carving

We opted for the honeycomb carving because we wanted to try it, but comparing the 2 choices, the pumpkin is probably more bang for your buck because you get a free pumpkin lol. For those who haven’t watched the show, the honeycomb carving is another game featured in Squid Game. Players are supposed to scratch/carve out a shape that’s been printed into this sugar cookie. I chose the triangle, which is the easiest shape to carve out. My other 3 friends selected the umbrella, which is the most difficult.

I was successful in carving out my triangle, but my other 3 friends failed. Their cookies cracked/broke the shape and their punishment was to eat a really sour dried lemon piece.

Photo ops

There are lots of places to take photos as they decorate many different areas with pumpkins, lights and scary decor. This was in a decorated train at the back of the farm.

Raffle draw

Because we completed 5 attraction and collected 5 stamps, we actually got to draw 5 eggs per person. My boyfriend won 2 prizes – first and second place and my other 2 friends won the second and third place prize. My 5 eggs were all duds, but we were very happy with the odds in our group!

First prize is an alpaca toy OMG. I was so happy because it is made with real alpaca fur and it is so soft!!! Also, the value of alpaca fur is quite high so I estimate this toy to already be worth $50-80.

One kinda strange thing is that the worker seemed really surprised when we pulled out the first place note from the egg. She had to talk to 2 other staff before letting us take the first place prize.

The second prize is a jar of blueberry jam, produced and sold at their farm – can’t wait to try it!

Third prize is a blueberry honey that is also produced at their farm.

Final thoughts

The 4 of us really enjoyed our time at RJT Blueberry Park for their Halloween event. I felt like they put a lot of effort into decorating and coming up with activities/attractions based on Squid Game. The staff were all really friendly and nice even though I feel like they were understaffed. For example, when we went to an attraction, they would call up the other workers and take a few minutes to prepare/set up for us. It’s kind of funny because I feel like they had so many jobs.

One other thing I really liked is that we were allowed to participate in the games and attractions within our own group. We didn’t have to do anything with other groups/strangers. Also, even though most activities are outdoors, almost every attraction is under cover so you don’t have to worry too much about the rain except from going from one attraction to another. This also makes it more spaced out/covid-friendly. There are heaters in the main registration booth if you are cold.

In terms of ticket prices, $60 (the most expensive ticket type) is quite steep for an adult but if you buy their basic adult ticket at $27, you already get access to essentially everything except for the pumpkin/honeycomb carving (but you can decide to pay for this game al le carte). For 1-2 hour of fun as well as the value of the prizes we won from the raffle, I’d say your ticket prices definitely balance out. Of course, there’s no guarantee you’ll win a prize (like me lol).

We plan to visit RJT again in the summer when blueberries are in season!

Sincerely, Loewe
