Sing Sing: Modern Asian eatery in Vancouver

Sing Sing is a casual restaurant serving craft beer, pho and other Asian dishes. They are located in the Mount Pleasant area in Vancouver. We came here for lunch so this review is based off of an in-dining experience.

Interior

Sing Sing has a really cool open concept. The inside of the restaurant is opened up like a garage to the patio. It is very open and airy and there’s a good buzz when we arrive at the restaurant.

Seats are comfortable and spaced out and I really like the neutral colours and the plants. It makes me feel very relaxed!

Drinks

They have a nice selection of craft beers and cocktails. I love Moscow mules and they have 4 to choose from!

Gin gin mule ($12) and Moscow mule ($12)

The gin gin mule uses Hendrick’s gin, lime, mint, sugar and fever-tree ginger beer. The classic Moscow mule uses Absolut vodka, lime, sugar, angostura bitters and fever-tree ginger beer. Both tasted quite similar and tasty – good price for 2 oz.

Food

We order different food items to share for 3 adults.

5 Spice bolognese ($15)

This is a pasta dish with spaghettini, grana padano and Thai basil. I was surprised it came in this bowl because I am pretty sure my Chinese parents have the same bowl at home lol. The bowl is really big compared to the amount of pasta inside, but the portion itself is reasonable (the bowl is just really big). It’s intentional as part of their presentation to make it look fancier.

The pasta was quite good but I have never been a big fan of bolognese. They tried to add their own Asian twist to it, which I thought was kinda cool.

Chicken katsu burger ($17)

This burger has a crispy fried chicken cutlet, bulldog sauce, cabbage, kewpie mayo and is served with shoestring fries. You can switch the side to something healthier like a salad.

Now I’m a big potato lover and I have to say the fries are REALLY good?!? They are like a better version of McDonald’s fries. Definitely stood out to me.

The burger was good as well – we cut it in half to share and it stayed together pretty well.

Pancetta and pineapple pizza ($17)

Italians can hate me but I don’t mind pineapple on my pizza. This pizza has pancetta (I love pancetta!), sweet chili, tomato and mozzarella. It is slightly on the smaller side but a nice and tasty pizza. I like that they used pancetta because it made it a little bit more fancy than your basic ham & pineapple pizza. This is good to share with 2 people.

Final thoughts

Loewe’s rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

We really enjoyed all 3 dishes and our drinks at Sing Sing. The vibe was really good and the food came out quickly too.

Out of all 3 dishes, I think I liked the sandwich the most with the pizza as a fast second. Prices were reasonable and it seems like Sing Sing is a great place to just hang out with friends with some casual (but elevated in their own way!) dishes.

Sincerely, Loewe
