Spacca Napoli Pizzeria: Local pizzeria in Port Moody

Spacca Napoli Pizzeria is a family-run Italian restaurant located in Port Moody. They are a local hot spot and are known for their Neapolitan style pizzas.

There has always been a wait in the 2x that I have gone. Even if the hostess tells you there is no wait, or just a few minutes, expect a wait. Luckily they do have some nice benches and seating outside – in the summer this is not bad.

The interior of Spacca Napoli Pizzeria is very trendy. They have a pizza oven out in the open and on display for customers to see. They have a bar and lots of pendant lighting.

Chairs and tables are comfortable, but the high ceiling makes for quite a chatty and loud restaurant. Don’t expect any hush hush romance in here. It is very modern and still a fun place for a date.

Antipasta

Potato croquettes ($6)

We originally want to order their mamma’s original meatball ($3) but they are sold out. Instead, we choose the potato croquettes because I love potatoes.

They come with a tomato salsa type of sauce and look like deep fried parmesan sticks. They are delicious – crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside.

Pasta

Mushroom risotto ($?)

Our server tells us the daily pasta special, which is a mushroom risotto. We never pass on risotto so we decide to order it.

Sorry for the question mark on price, but I really don’t remember how much it is. Good estimate is $10-18.

The risotto is a hefty portion, good to share between 2 people. They add lots of cheese on top. I found the risotto slightly too watery but my boyfriend enjoyed it.

Pizza

Alla facciazza ($25)

This is their most expensive pizza but the reason why we order it is because it’s listed as the 2017 Vancouver pizza challenge winner. There are tons of toppings on this pizza: house made arugula pesto, truffle cream, porcini mushrooms, garlic, 18-month cured parma proscuitto crudo, shaved parmigiano cheese, toasted pistachios and fior de latte mozzarella.

The pizza arrives and it is giant. Keep in mind that Neapolitan pizzas are flat. They also serve it unsliced so you get a fancy pizza knife to cut it up.

Taking a first bite, the pizza is very overwhelming. I think the smell and taste of the pistachio is quite strong. Also for those who missed it, this is a bianca pizza (no tomato sauce). Instead, the base of the pizza lies with the arugula pesto. This gives it a unique touch but for those who prefer tomato sauce pizzas, I do not recommend it for you.

My boyfriend is more of a classic Margarita pizza type of guy, but we don’t regret trying this pizza at all. We liked the proscuitto crudo and the two types of cheese they used. The pizza was cooked perfectly.

Final thoughts

I think it’s very clear to see why Spacca Napoli Pizzeria is a local favourite. Being family-run, having the buzzing ambiance and a selection of great pizzas for all ages are all pluses. It’s located very close to Rocky Point, a great place to walk your dog and grab ice cream after your dinner.

I like that they have daily pasta specials to mix things up. In general, I think this is a great place to check out and catch up with friends or with family.

Sincerely, Loewe
