Trattoria: $17 Pastas on Tuesdays in Burnaby

Trattoria is an Italian restaurant under the Glowbal restaurant chain. In the last 2 years, they have undergone a re-brand including their patio space and menu. Now focusing on fresh handmade pasta, they have also updated their popular promotion – pasta Tuesdays 🍝.
Trattoria Tuesday’s pasta promotion has been around for many years. I even did a review of this back in 2020 when pastas were only $13 on Tuesdays. But we are adults and we all know what inflation is, so now the pasta special is $17 on Tuesdays 💸.
We came here for a budget-friendly date night on a Tuesday to check out their new menu where they have new pastas added to the Trattoria Tuesday promotion.

The vibe

The interior space of Trattoria hasn’t changed much over the years but their patio now looks a lot fancier and is undercover and heated with Parisienne style black and white stripe booths.
We did not have a reservation and just walked in around 8pm on a Tuesday night. We were told there would be a 30min wait unless we sat at the bar. Since it was already 8pm and I get hangry, we were fine with bar seating.
I haven’t sat at the bar before but it wasn’t that bad. The bar stools were very comfy and plush with black support, a common gripe I have with bar seating is that it’s too high and it’s just a wooden stool so it’s uncomfortable.
We were also facing the pizza oven 🍕 so it was kind of cool to watch them make it in front of us. There is also a good view of TVs from these seats.
Only minor note was that service was slower as we were in the bar seating and would sometimes get “missed” unless we put our hand up our flag down a worker.
Food review
Here is everything we ordered to share between 2 adults. Prices are in CAD and rounded to the nearest dollar for simplicity.
Truffle spaghetti & meatballs ($17)

First, I need to include this pasta because it is a signature 🤩 at Trattoria’s and I’m glad it’s still on the Tuesday pasta menu.
This pasta uses a very delicious and creamy black truffle cream sauce – you can really taste a strong truffle flavour. There is also some tomato fondue and herbed ricotta with 3 large meatballs.
I would say portion-wise, this is one of the bigger/more filling pastas on the menu. You get a lot of pasta noodles and the meatballs are big. With both the white cream and the tomato sauce on the meatballs, you kind of get a yin-yang mix of 2 different pasta sauces.
Big fan of this pasta and if you haven’t tried this before, you need to 👍! Regular price for this pasta is $27.
100 Layer lasagna ($17)

One of the new pastas I really wanted to try was this 100 layer lasagna. I am not a big fan of lasagna, but for some reason, this just sounded really good to me.
There is nothing fusion about this – it’s just a good ol’ classic lasagna with bolognese rose sauce. I do like the way they presented this dish and how they diagonally plates all the layer, making it easier to eat and more surface area for that crispiness at the top.
Regular price for this pasta is $24.
Rigatoni vodka all‘amatriciana ($17)

This is my new favourite pasta at Trattoria 😍! It has all the things I like in a pasta – rigatoni, vodka, pancetta, and burrata. It also has tomatoes, cream and pecorino.
The pancetta is crispy and the burrata adds to the creaminess of this pasta. I personally think rigatoni is the best pasta noodle and this was cooked al dente with a great texture.
If you are a fan of Pepino Spaghetti House’s vodka rigatoni, this one is similar! Regular price for this pasta is $26.
Nodi marini fra diavolo ($17)

We ordered 4 pastas and this one was the one I liked the least, unfortunately 😞.
This is a seafood-based pasta featuring scallops and prawns. There is peperoncino, garlic
tomatoes, olives, capers and aglio e olio.
The pasta for this is kind of fun because it has a squiggly shape but I just didn’t like the sauce and I felt it was bland. Portion-wise there is a decent amount. Regular price for this pasta is $28.
Signature tableside tiramisu for two ($18)

As you can see from this post, we ordered 4 pastas which is way too much for 2 people but we were planning on saving leftovers for lunch the next day. Even though we were very full, we still ordered this tiramisu dessert because it sounded too good not to get 😋!
The tableside tiramisu for 2 is not a Tuesday special so any day you come, it will cost you $18. A staff will actually push a cart to your table and prepare the tiramisu in front of you. He was quite funny and engaged with you.
The tiramisu uses mascarpone mousse, espresso soaked lady fingers, mocha, anglaise, and a big block of freshly grated chocolate.
I like my tiramisu to be mostly mascarpone and this one delivered! It was ooey gooey, decadent and quite boozy as there is quite a lot of liquor/liquid at the bottom of the dish.
Final thoughts
Loewe’s rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had a very filling date night dinner at Trattoria on a Tuesday night. We originally wanted this to be budget-friendly because $17 for a pasta is a good deal, but after ordering 4 pastas and the tiramisu, our bill was not budget-friendly. Regardless, I think it is good value – just don’t order like us 😂.
Out of all 4 pastas 🍝, I liked the rigatoni the most. Next favourite was probably the lasagna. The truffle meatball pasta is a signature and I am familiar with the taste, but sometimes it can get a little overwhelming for me (the truffle flavour). I would not recommend the seafood pasta.
For dessert, it was fun to try but we wouldn’t order again. I think $18 for tiramisu is a little steep, even if it’s for 2 people. But it’s nice for a date night or something to spazz up the night as it is different.
Overall, Trattoria Tuesdays is still a good deal and I think they did a great job revamping the menu and adding more pastas to the menu.
Sincerely, Loewe
