Whistler ATV Tours: The Bushwacker tour

I tried ATVing for the first time in Whistler for my friend’s birthday during August. ATVs stand for all-terrain vehicles and they look like chunky go karts with big wheels and no doors.

Bushwacker tour

We decided to go with Whistler ATV and I selected the Bushwacker tour because it is described to be the best tour for beginners and non-beginners. The tour is 2 hours long with 1.5 hours of actual ride time. It also comes with a guide to lead you through the trail.

Prices

We went as a group of 4 – 3 drivers and 1 passenger (me lol). Adult single riders cost $149 + a collision coverage of $25 = $174 before tax per adult driver. One adult driver + a passenger costs $258 + $25 collision coverage = $283 for 2 people.

Riding

We started off with some practice in a big empty gravel lot. We practiced turning, accelerating and stopping. After running through a few housekeeping items, our tour guide took us into the trails.

Maybe because we are a small group of all adults, our guide took us through some more difficult trails. By difficult, I mean steeper hills, different terrains, bumpier roads, etc. We all went pretty fast as well.

Our guide took us to some really nice photo spots and took time to explain a little bit about the mountains around us.

We even went through a giant mud puddle (we got VERY wet and dirty).

As a passenger, I had a different experience to the drivers. I was more the dead doll flinging around in the back. I had to hold onto the rails in the back because if I hugged the driver, I didn’t feel as safe (lol this is what happens when you get old… you actually care about safety).

My boyfriend describes driving through some of the terrain as doing push ups. This is because some of the terrain is steep and up and down/not flat.

Tour guide

Our tour guide was really great. He was very chill and funny in a sarcastic way and the best part was that he took awesome photos!

I feel the tour guides alter the tour depending on the group. We passed by larger groups with children and I could tell they were going much slower than us and perhaps less difficult terrains depending on what the group wanted.

Final thoughts

I really enjoyed my first ATV experience in Whistler. The weather was sunny and the view was beautiful.

We did get quite dirty from the tour (make sure you wear closed toe shoes and clothes you don’t care about getting dirty!) but I suppose that is part of the fun.

I recommend doing ATV with adults or at least teenager children. I also think it would be more fun if everybody had their own ATV. As someone who doesn’t like to drive much in general, I preferred being the passenger and I don’t regret making that choice.

Sincerely, Loewe
