Atlas Steak + Fish: Bite of Burnaby menu

bite of burnaby

Atlas Steak + Fish is a steakhouse with locations in Burnaby and Langley. I went to the Langley location last year for my friend’s birthday, but we decided to check out their Burnaby location for the Bite of Burnaby special menu.

Bite of Burnaby is similar to Dine Out Vancouver, where participating restaurants offer special 3-course menus at a set price. However, Bite of Burnaby focuses on highlighting restaurants in Burnaby, whereas DOV stretches across the whole Lower Mainland.

Interior

The Burnaby location of Atlas is located inside the Grand Villa Casino, so parking is abundant and free. The interior looked very similar to the Langley location, with sophisticated lights and plush seating. We came on a Sunday night but the restaurant was busy and it smelled really good!

Our table for 2 was spacious and had a good view of the open kitchen where we can see all the plates of food come out.

Bite of Burnaby menu ($60)

This year’s Bite of Burnaby menu is $60 per person or $76 with wine pairings.

We start off with some complimentary bread. The bread looks super cute in a little skillet and tastes great with the butter and blue cheese.

Amuse bouche

The amuse bouche is like a poke chip with blackened tuna, roma tomato, avocado, green onion, cilantro,
ponzu and sesame, served on a fried wonton chip. It’s a nice one-biter but really didn’t need to be served on such a large plate haha.

Course 1: Josper smoked potato chowder

For our first course, we both chose the potato chowder. The other option is a caesar salad, which I won’t review because I didn’t try it.

The soup arrives first empty with potato vermicelli and some sweet corn. The server comes back with the soup and pours it into the bowl to look like the photo above. I quite liked this potato chowder because I could smell some of the smokiness and I also love potatoes so it had a very good earthy flavour. The potato vermicelli I thought was quite cute and added some crunchy texture. The soup wasn’t very thick like certain clam chowders I’ve had, but it had a good consistency and wasn’t too watery.

Course 2: Petite filet bernaise

My boyfriend orders the steak for his second course. It’s a 6oz CAB filet with warm potato salad and chimichurri. The steak was cooked medium rare and we had no problems with it. As a steakhouse, we really expected zero things to be wrong with the steak so we were happy with what we received. We also really liked the chimichurri sauce with the bernaise sauce!

Course 2: Josper smoked chicken breast

For my main, I chose the chicken breast. It sat on top of roasted potatoes, asparagus and a shiitake peppercorn sauce.

Even though things were stacked on top of each other, it wasn’t too difficult to eat after I de-stacked it. The chicken breast was very moist and had no bones in it, making it easy to cut with my knife. The peppercorn sauce wasn’t very noticeable.

Course 3: Chocolate peanut butter marquis bar

My boyfriend ordered the chocolate peanut butter bar, which came with caramel corn and crème anglaise. It is a very rich and sweet dessert, too sweet for our taste but we are Asians so this might be right up your alley if you love chocolate.

Course 3: Raspberry lemoncello tart

I order the raspberry tart dessert and it comes with almond meringue, coconut crispy crunch and a raspberry sorbet. This is a more tart dessert because of the raspberry, but I still found the dessert to be strangely too sweet. I did like the sorbet with the coconut crispy crunch.

Final thoughts

Loewe’s rating: ⭐⭐⭐

We were quite full from the Bite of Burnaby menu and at $60 per person, I think it is definitely a good deal for the quality and amount of food you get from Atlas. We were most impressed with our mains as the steak was delicious and the chicken breast was very juicy. Most disappointing was the dessert round because we found both of our desserts to be too sweet and we didn’t finish it.

Atlas has a very attractive general menu and I actually found a lot of people to be ordering from their regular menu (everything looks so good), but the Bite of Burnaby menu was nice to try a selection of different courses. I kind of wished their Bite of Burnaby menu had more than 1 steak option since they are a steakhouse. The other entree options not chosen by us was the salmon steak (which I tried before at the Langley location) and a squash risotto for vegetarians.

Service was excellent and atmosphere of the restaurant was really nice. It is quite a fancy restaurant in Burnaby. I definitely recommend their steaks as we were impressed both times by their steak dinner options. However, last time my salmon steak had slightly burnt skin, so I’m not so confident about their fish options yet, but will return since we are close to Burnaby and everything else was generally delicious.

Sincerely, Loewe
