Burnaby Mountain Clubhouse: Dine Out Vancouver 2024

Dine Out Vancouver is a food festival where restaurants offer special menus and experiences during a usually slow period of the year. This year, Dine out Vancouver ran from January 17 – February 4, 2024 and menu prices range from $20-65 per person.

The third restaurant I checked out was Burnaby Mountain Restaurant for their $35 brunch menu. They are a clubhouse restaurant located on a golf course, but don’t worry you won’t have to actually drive up the mountain as it is more located at the base.

The vibe

The interior of Burnaby Mountain Restaurant was actually quite spacious with a lot of nice natural light coming in from their large windows and ceilings.

The style/decor has more of a lounge type feel with leather plush chairs and warm wood tones, but it still has a casual vibe to it (maybe because of all the sunlight).

We were seated at a round table for 4 adults and there was lots of space.

Food review

Burnaby Mountain Restaurant offered 2 different brunch menus priced at $25 or $35 per person. We opted for the $35 menu as it seemed like a better deal.

First course: Peach bruschetta

For my first course, I chose the beach bruschetta. It came in 3 little crostinis with some chopped up peaches and cheese. Portion size was decent in my opinion for 1 person and it had a nice refreshing taste to it from the fruit.

First course: Seafood chowder

For Kelvin’s first course, he chose the seafood chowder. He is a big fan of chowders and he actually quite liked the flavours and consistency of this one so it passes his standards!

Second course: Lobster hash

For my main, I chose the lobster hash. It came in a decent presentation with 2 poached eggs, some arugula, hollaindaise sauce and some huge smashed potatoes. I did ask myself “Where’s the lobster?” but saw it was mostly hidden under the eggs and arugula – a type of minced/mixed blob of lobster meat on top.

Generally, I thought this dish was ok despite really losing the lobster flavour underneath all that hollandaise sauce. I actually couldn’t eat everything on my plate because I was so full – lots of potatoes!

Second course: Lobster breakfast burger

For Kelvin’s main dish, he chose the lobster burger. When it arrived we were all very impressed because of the way they stabbed that big lobster tail on top of the burger – looks so appetizing!

The burger itself had a meat patty, bacon, fried eggs (more like a breakfast burger) and it was served with a side of smashed potatoes.

I actually preferred the smash potatoes in his plate because it was more crunchy (mine were kind of soggy under the hollandaise sauce).

Kelvin enjoyed the lobster tail and it was pretty easy to remove from the tail and add into the main part of the burger. But while eating through his plate, he did start to feel that it was quite rich and heavy. He also was not able to finish everything on his plate.

Third course: French toast

We actually saw a server bring out a french toast and it looked huge so we were afraid because we were already so full from the first 2 courses, but I think what we saw was the regular french toast dish on the al le carte menu. In the Dine Out Vancouver menu, the french toast is much more simple – a simple slice of bread coated in sauce and topped with a scoop of ice cream.

I had a little bite of this and did feel it was too sweet for me.

Third course: Crème brulee

For my dessert, I chose the creme brulee. It came with a side of biscotti which actually tasted pretty good when dipped in the creme brulee, however, I was disappointed that the top of my dessert didn’t have that caramelized layer. When I tapped on it, my spoon sank right in (no cracking).

The flavour also had a strong coffee taste to it, which I was surprised about. But aside from the sugar not hardening at the top, it was a nice creme brulee.

Final thoughts

Loewe’s rating: ⭐⭐⭐

I would give this Dine Out menu at the Burnaby Mountain Restaurant anywhere from 2-3 stars. Service was fine but we mostly just felt the menu items were too heavy, too rich, and too fatty for the first meal in our day. However, we did think we got our value – $35 is a great price – so if you look at it from that POV, you get bang for your buck.

Sincerely, Loewe
