Los Cuervos Taqueria & Cantina: New Mexican brunch in Vancouver

Los Cuervos Taqueria and Cantina is a cozy Mexican restaurant located in the Mount Pleasant area of Vancouver. They serve up a taco-centric menu with margaritas, happy hour and now brunch! We were invited to check out their brand new brunch menu, which features Mexican brunch specialties like chilaquiles and more.

The vibe

Los Cuervos Taqueria & Cantina have a colourful exterior and is located right between Osteria Savio Volpe and a park so you can find some free parking near the park area.

Inside, there are 2 rooms – one has more wood tones and the inner room is more bright and colourful.

Drinks menu

You know me, a good brunch is a boozy brunch. They have a pretty good selection of brunch cocktails and the price are reasonable.

Mexican mimosa x2 ($16)

Mimosas are a classic at brunch. Los Cuervos adds a bit of Mexican spice to it by using hibiscus and lime juice. I was surprised it came with 2 glasses because even though on the menu it says “x2” I didn’t think it actually meant it could be for 2 people! You pour/mix your own ratio with the juice and the cute bottle of Henkell.

Mangonada ($14)

I also got to try the mangonada, which is a frozen cocktail. It uses tequila, mango, lime juice, chamoi and tajin. The drink came really full so I appreciated that lol. The texture is thicker because it is frozen, so it’s kind of like a mango slushie but with the look and feel of a margarita since they line the rim with salt. I found the salt to be a little too much as there is a lot of it, but aside from that, a really nice fruity drink.

Food menu

Los Cuervos Taqueria & Cantina are now offering brunch and here’s a look at their new menu. Some things that caught my eyes were the chilaquiles, the skillet huevos rancheros, the trio of tacos (available on their regular menus) and the flan for dessert. But sadly, we are just 2 girls and cannot eat that much so we ended up just ordering 2 dishes to share.

Traditional mexican molletes ($18)

A mollete is an open-faced sandwich with beans and cheese in Mexican cuisine. The ones here from Los Cuervos Taqueria use refried bean, mozza cheese, pico de galio, cilantro, chipotle mayo, pickled onions and jalapeños. I added chorizo to give it some extra meat.

This was good to share with 2 people and it was actually quite easy to eat. You can use your hand and eat it or slice it up with a knife and eat it piece by piece. I really liked the taste of the cheese, chorizo and beans together and the jalapeños were not spicy for all my non-spicy friends.

Huevos divorciados ($17)

This brunch dish features 2 eggs sunny side up on top of corn tortillas, salsa roja and verde, sour cream, cilantro and onion. We also added chicken to this dish, but you can also add chorizo if you want. In the middle we have some more refried beans.

This dish actually tasted quite healthy to me. Again, this was quite easy to share between two people and I liked how one tortilla had salsa and the other had salsa verde. After awhile, it can kind of mix up with the beans, but it’s yummy to eat it all together.

This dish also comes with a side of potatoes, which really tickled my fancy because I love potatoes. They are cut up into really small french fry sizes and seasoned well.

Final thoughts

Loewe’s rating: ⭐⭐⭐

We had a delicious brunch at Los Cuervos Taqueria & Cantina. I’ve actually never tried Mexican brunch before so there were a lot of dishes I was curious about. Most of the dishes feature eggs and you can add a protein if you wish (good for Vegetarian friends!). Even the more “classic” brunch dishes like the avocado toast or the chicken and waffles, have a little bit of a Mexican twist to it, whether it’s adding some jalapeños or the sauces they use.

Portions are good considering the prices (everything is under $20!) so I would definitely recommend this as a cute brunch spot if you’re on a budget.

Sincerely, Loewe
