Neptune Wonton Noodle: Chinese food in Burnaby, Richmond and Surrey

Neptune Wonton Noodle is a Chinese restaurant with locations in Burnaby, Richmond and Surrey. This review is based on a takeout experience.

Ever since we’ve moved out of my parents’ house, we’ve been more open to Chinese food takeout. Previously, we would rarely order Chinese food because our parents would be cooking it all the time.

Food

We ordered from Neptune Wonton Noodle for lunch. We didn’t feel too good because we drank the day previously, so we were craving for something soupy.

Hong Kong style sampan congee (small – $9) + Deep-fried Chinese donut ($5)

Congee is a type of rice porridge. My mom used to make me congee whenever I was sick so as a child, I wasn’t the biggest fan of congee. But now as an adult, I realize there are many different delicious flavours of congee (vs. just the plain white congee my mom made when I was sick). My all-time favourite congee is the Hong Kong style sampan congee, which is a mixture of different seafood and meats and peanuts.

The small congee is good to share with 2 people. I found it pretty average – not too flavourful compared to the one I had at Double Double in Richmond.

This Chinese donut does not resemble a western donut. It’s more like a stick and I like to dip it into my congee to eat. By itself, the flavour is not strong because it’s meant to be paired with congee and not eaten by itself.

The donut was not soggy from the takeout process so we were happy with it.

Salt and peppery chicken wings ($13)

We added these chicken wings because they sounded good. The seasoning on the chicken wings tasted good, but the wings were quite soggy from the takeout processes so unfortunately, it wasn’t nice and crispy. Therefore, I would not recommend this dish if you are ordering takeout.

Seafood fried noodle ($20)

I ordered this dish hoping it would be what I had in mind and it was! I wanted the Chinese dish that had the “bird’s nest” AKA crispy fried noodles and a seafood mixture that you pour and mix with the noodles.

This dish is big and can be shared with up to 4 adults. The noodles are crispy – not soggy or burnt. The seafood mixture is quite nice even though it doesn’t have a lot of seafood in it (lol). I liked the consistency and flavour and this dish was quite good the next day after leftovers too!

Final thoughts

Loewe’s rating: ⭐⭐

In total, we spent almost $60 after tax, tip and delivery on Uber Eats (fees add up!). This is, of course, quite expensive for a lunch and for Chinese food, which is notorious for being cheap. Their regular in-dining menu is cheaper too.

But hey, we were hungover and wanted congee so it did the job. However, I don’t think we’ll be ordering congee from them again because it tasted a little too bland. The seafood noodle dish still had good value because we had leftovers and ate it for dinner again the next day.

Sincerely, Loewe
