The Beach House: Brunch in West Vancouver
The Beach House is a restaurant located in West Vancouver specializing in locally sourced west coast cuisine. We visited to try their brunch menu. This review is based on an in-dining experience back in July.
Patio
The Beach House’s actual building is an old school heritage building constructed back in 1912. They got a big renovation in 2010 when they opened The Beach House.
As you may have guessed, this restaurant is located right on the beach so it has a great view of the beach shore line and in general, it has a very relaxing atmosphere.
We are seated on their second floor patio. They also have a ground floor patio, but both floors offer a great view of Howe Sound. I would say the ground floor patio looked more comfortable because they had different seating. The second floor patio all had tall bar tables and bar stools and no cushions.
Food
Their brunch menu is effective on weekends & holidays from 10am – 2pm. They also have a brunch happy hour from 10am – 11am. The special of the day was 50% off bottles of sparkling so we did order a whole bottle of sparkling rose lol.
Oysters ($2.75-$3.50 each)
Since we arrive during brunch happy hour, we order a dozen oysters because they are $1 off each. They only have 2 types of oysters – Kusshi or Royal Miyagi.
The oysters are refreshing and came very quickly.
Prawn omelette ($17)
Our friend orders the prawn omelette. It is made with 3 eggs, prawns, confit garlic butter and parmesan. They offer sides of house greens as well as a potato pave.
I didn’t try any of this so I can’t talk about the taste, but presentation looks good and portion size is not too small.
Crab benedict ($20)
My boyfriend orders the crab benny because he loooves crab. The classic benedicts come with poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and snow crab meat. Like the prawn omelette, it also comes with the same sides of a hosue salad and a potato pave.
Everything is delicious but there isn’t a super strong crab flavour in the benny.
Smoked salmon rosti ($17)
I order this dish because the word “rosti” catches my eye. I first tried rosti in Switzerland – it’s like a potato fritter or pancake. And since I love all potatoes, I was in love with this dish.
Upon seeing my dish, I am immediately disappointed because it’s not rosti at all. I see the same potato pave that have popped up in the previous dishes as a side, except on my plate it has become the main. This is disappointing because I am paying essentially the same price as the prawn omelette except just for just the potato and a bit of smoked salmon – very misleading.
Final thoughts
Loewe’s rating: ⭐⭐⭐
In total, we spent around $80 for brunch for 2 people. This was definitely more expensive than what I would usually pay for brunch, but we did purchase oysters and a bottle of sparkling. Still, because the rosti dish disappointed me in value, I felt the meal was overpriced in general.
The location and ambiance was beautiful and relaxing since it has a great view. Staff were attentive and the food is good, but I just don’t think the brunch we had was worth the price.
Sincerely, Loewe
